star ratings in shared folders

Post by andrew.michell »

I have some photos in a folder which is shared with other people (it's on a network drive). If I apply a star rating to a photo, the other people don't see it - indeed each user can set their own (different) star rating.
Is it possible to set it so that everyone sees the same star rating?

I am no expert but I will tell you my thoughts on this. You might want to check with someone with more experience.

Open Settings, Metadata, then the IPTC & XPM tab.
About 3/4 of the way down the options list there is a Rating & Label section.
Check the Export rating in XMP metadata and the Export color label in XMP metadata options.

I believe this will write the Ratings into the files metadata, it should then be visible to anyone looking at it with compatible software.

WARNING!
I do not know what will happen if the other network user changes the Rating, I don't have a network setup like yours. So test it first:-)
I am not positive, but I do not think the file metadata will store multiple versions of the same rating, color or star. Again, test!

Again, I am no expert, but I thought I would answer because no one else has. I hope it helps.

Good luck,

Gord
