Support for Affinity Publisher .afpub files ?

Post by ImageJack »

As there is support for Affinity Photo (.afphoto) and Designer (.afdesign) files, may it be possible to add previews for Affinity Publisher .afpub files ? The file format of all Affinity products is nearly the same, so it should not be that hard.

Looking forward for it ...

Congratulations to the milestone 1.0 ! XnViewMP is a great piece of software :D .
Hoped you would manage to integrate thumbs for *.afpub files ...

Does it help when you know that renaming file extensions from *.afpub to *.afphoto enables XnViewMP to show thumbs?

Hello,

thanks for your reply ...

I can only described what happens if i rename the *afpub file, Here are two samples.

Original Affinity Publisher file:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/8g82unvv ... afpub/file

This one is the same like above. Just the extension ist changed to *.afphoto:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/ocghghb8 ... photo/file

After changing the extension XnViewMP shows a thumbnail preview. Returning to the original extension disables the thumbnail again.

Thanks for you efforts

From the official Affinity support forum:

A .afpub renamed to .afdesign still doesn't show the thumbnail in XnViewMP. Also, a .afpub file opened in Designer and saved as a .afdesign file doesn't show the thumbnail.

However, an artboard-based document created and saved in Publisher as a .afdesign file does show the thumbnail in XnViewMP (though one saved as a .afpub doesn't).

I suspect that the XnViewMP developers wrote code to read the Affinity files directly, rather than using the proper Windows API to extract the thumbnail. But that's something the XnViewMP developers would have to comment on, and something that should be raised with them.

Affinity Publisher files show thumbnails in XnViewMP als long as you rename the extension. If *.afphoto or *.afdesign does not make any difference. Maybe you can try the samples i uploaded ...

Can it be a special configuration within my computer ?
- Windows 10 (showing thumbs in explorer)
- Affinity suite with Publisher, Designer and Photo
- Ghostscript installed to view PDFs in XnViewMP
Seems nothing to be special about it ...

You can define In preferences of any Affinity product wether preview thumbnails should be generated or not.
As I understand XnViewMP shows the internal thumbs of Affinity files – Maybe this makes the difference within the files you tested so far?

Thanks for your efforts.
