Add On - Tool for annotating images

Post by StreifLicht »

Does anybody know a tool or add-on which operates smoothly with XnView to annotate images (adding arrows, text, lines...)?

Ah, ok - XnView MP has already a built in draw feature. Cool.
But I cannot find this feature within XnView Classic.

To explain:
At the moment I am using XnView Classic as portable version on an USB stick.
And I am missing this draw feature.
Since it should be possible to install MP as portable version I will try this first.
But, it is also goog to know, if XnView Classic also has the draw feature?

Have tried the built-in drawing feature. Adding annotating works great.
What is a bit of a pity is that once a file is saved, it cannot be edited. I can no longer change or delete annotations. Only add additional annotations, that is possible...

That's not possible on common image formats as the annotations are 'burned into' the image bitmap, and so can't be distinguished from other pixels.

Editing an annotated image requires creating and editing it in a format that supports that, such as an Adobe image format, which XnView .software doesn't support to the required extent.

Supporting the .greenshot file format could be a solution. At least for viewing .greenshot files.
The .greenshot file format allows annotations to be edited.
Annotating an image is a great benefit - but annotating with the possibility of editing the annotations would be fantastic.
And Greenshot is open source, so it should be possible to find a way to use it. Could be a win-win situation for XnView & Greenshot.
