XMP Thumb labels

Post by blackplanet »

Hi,

As part of preferring an embedded XMP only workflow (to do with using Android to also update synced photos metadata) it would be great to be able to use XMP fields as thumb labels.

When searching for this I found a previous discussion that suggested it was not possible, but I believe from a number of years ago.
As XMP fields are able to be chosen in the batch rename tool, I wonder if the situation has changed and maybe now XMP could be implemented for thumb labels.

Having tried lots of photo tools over the years, and with many of them being very good at certain aspects, I always come back to XNViewMP as it does the vast majority of what I need. The above would be the cherry on top of the cake if it could be implemented! :D

Thanks,

Marc

Having spent some time playing around I've found out that the custom fields in the Thumbnails - Labels setting can be used to show XMP information.

I assumed that because they didn't pre-exist as a choice that it was not possible.

Enter the custom label as {XMP:Title} ,for example, with no space after the : and the respective field will show up after either navigating away and back to the original folder, or after rebuilding thumbnails.

However, the display of XMP labels seems to be temporary. Navigating away from the folder and back again results in the XMP items not showing! If there is a way to make these fields stay visible it would be fantastic.

FYI, some internal XNView elements can also be shown, such as {Categories}. This didn't work for {Rating} however, I haven't tried others.

Regards,

Marc

Hi,

Yes, just double checked and it is set to TRUE.

I tried XMP in Tooltips and it works correctly there.

Thanks,

Marc

Erratic. :-(
New, fresh MP installation working correct. Then I investigate why old installation not working.
Relaunch new installed MP: not working. Delete old catalog, retest: working. Delete catalog again: not working. :-(
This only for browser tooltip. Fullscreen info are OK.
I hope new 0.99.8.9.95.98.x :-D

@xnview The tooltip concern described by cicciobello is a known issue as you state but presumably the thumb labels item I originally raised is not (maybe at a programming level they are related I don't know obviously). Would you like me to raise it as a bug?

For info I use embedded XMP data, not sidecars.

Thanks,

Marc
