Slideshow Zoom and Pan

Post by somedude »

Hi, I was searching around the forums for how to zoom and pan during a slideshow. It seems like there are quite a few people looking for this functionality. I also get a feeling that the developers of XnView MP don't understand why we would like that type of functionality in a slideshow (which inevitably means it won't get added). So, I'm going to explain why I'd like the functionality in hopes that maybe it will sway the developers' opinions on whether it's a good feature to add or not :)

Here's why I would like the zoom and pan features: When I'm in an online meeting I quite regularly have images or photos to show people. Very often someone in the meeting, or myself, would like to point out a small area on the image. The best way to do that is to zoom in (like you can on XNView's individual image browser). Then once zoomed in, of course, you have to pan to that area to see it.

Right now I have to do one of two things, either 1) exit slideshow and find the image to show in the browser view; and then go back and try to find my spot in slideshow view when I'm done, or 2) upload all my images to google photos and use the slideshow there (which supports zooming and panning).

Both of those workarounds are clunky to say the least.

I support this suggestion. It is really often desirable to zoom in while in a slideshow.
Of course, one could view the pictures one by one and have the zooming and panning effects, even in fullscreen.
But then you don't have the smooth transitions from picture to picture.

I didn't realize there were two slideshows. I'm talking about when I select all the pictures I want to see in a slideshow then click the "slideshow" button in the toolbar. A dialog box pops up with the options, the I click "ok". Once the slideshow starts I'd like to be able to zoom and pan.

Ok, and if you try 'quick slideshow'?
