Is it possible to to have the upper left area to show the folder list, the bottom left to show the Info panel--without the preview tab, the upper right to show the thumbnails, and the bottom right to show the preview?

The only layout item in the Layout list I hadn't clicked on was Free. Did that and it gave me what I wanted.

Good that you've found a solution yourself, WNM. Layout "Free" doesn't just mean that it is a layout that you can customize freely but it's a layout on its own. A bit misleading.
