Batch Convert output folder?

Post by CB-Crew »

Hello,

I am resizing photos with the batch utility and am looking for a way to save the changed photos in the current folder and move the original photos into a subdirectory of the current folder.

My question is if there are any XnView actions that I can use to to achieve this and if there is documentation how to use the folder field in output tab of a batch covert. How can I output in a subdirectory of the ‘current’ folder. I think there is something to work with directories, but can't find any more documentation about it.

Thank you

You can set the current 'source' folder as the output folder on the Output tab...

... and move the original photos into a subdirectory of the current folder.
...but I don't see a way to perform a 'move' operation afterwards from within XnView MP Batch convert, as far as I know there is no support for that.

A possible workaround might be to manually copy the source files into a folder that you have created before running the conversion, and to select the option to delete the source files in the input folder after the conversion, although that would still leave the retained source files in a different folder.

But if you would like to be able to convert multiple folders of images that way, that workaround would clearly have limitations...

If you have experience using the command line, or a strong enough motivation to learn something fairly challenging, you could probably fairly easily create a batch file to automate processing multiple input folders in the way you have described using the command line software NConvert.

I have a related issue
What I do is move them to the folder including opening that folder in the browser (ok I'm lazy) Then sort by date. Highlight the moved file and use the batch converter to do whatever and copy them back. It is not as hard as it sounds
OR
Make one batch to copy them where you want them then batch 2 to perform what you need done

You can use the batch converter to create folders on the fly :!:

Conceptually, if there were a large number of folders of images to process, a 'hybrid' method might work well and be easier to set up than a full NConvert solution:

Run a simple batch file that just copies the images in each folder into a new folder within the folder, then run XnView MP Batch convert (or the excellent XnConvert) to produce the new files required in the source folder, using the option to delete the source files. Something like that...
