Quality of JPEG viewing in Full Screen is very bad :(

Post by sandnix »

I dont know why, but when I view JPEGS with XNview I noticed, that the qualitiy of them is very low.
They are shown very pixelated and not smooth at all.

Opening them in browser or Photoshop and compare it is like two entire different worlds.

I looked into the XN view settings but could not find anything related to this problem anywhere :(

Any tips? I like XNview but this is was a shock to me now and would be a reason to drop it for another program :(

Shouldn't be a problem as far as I know, what image pixel dimensions, an example image to test?

When zooming, which I don't immediately think is relevant here, in Tools > Settings > View > View tab there are several options related to zooming which you might wish to check out now.

well, none of the options you suggested helped.

It is a zoom problem of a kind, because when viewing in fullscreen, pics with lower resolution are zoomed, no? :D

So in this case I am viewing 800 pixel wide pictures on a 1920 wide screen and they look horrible.
Another picture viewing program, or even photoshop, the pictures look ALOT better (smooth, not as pixelated as with XNview).

I know it might be an oversight because it is not an issue with most files, but I happen to use ALOT of smaller resolution pictures and therefor I really get this problem smashed in my face day by day :(

would help:
- test file and screenshot (with side by side comparison xnview/photoshop of zoomed fragment)
- screenshot of your zoom settings (see cday's reply) if they are not default
