typo - grEyscale to grAyscale

Post by user0 »

XnView: MP 1.3.1 64bits
OS: Windows 64bit (22H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Suggestion
typo - change grEyscale to grAyscale:
- it is written via A everywhere (wiki, adobe stuff, other viewers, etc.)
- to maintain consistancy in app (see picture)

It is written via E everywhere but in USA.

The issue is a bit more general, as in XnView software 'colour' is normally written with the US spelling 'color'...

I agree that spelling is better consistent one way or the onother, but currently US spelling is I think the norm.

Note, I am British, and having always been particularly poor at spelling, for a long time without realising it normally used the US 'grayscale' and British 'colour'....

well, I'm aware about UK/US difference, but have you bothered googling both variants or installing different image related software to see which one is used more or in use at all?

I oppose this suggestion. In fact I have the English language file installed which is represented by an Union Flag and therefore suggest that the incorrect spelling of "color" throughout the program be corrected instead.

I suppose that ideally there would be Tools > Settings... options for British English or American English, as provided in some other software...

But consistency in spelling is also important or at least desirable, and changing all existing spellings from American English to the British English spelling would be both a significant undertaking and I think controversial. I suspect that globally more English-speaking users speak American English than British English.

Many users are unaware that all XnView software is produced by a single developer, who currently has a high workload implementing suggestions to further refine XnView MP, which is increasingly being recognised as an excellent software. :D
