Here's how I configured XnView MP to preview afphoto files. I don't know if it's optimal, but it works. In settings, add the afphoto extension:
Then choose your custom filter:
And I see both Photo 1 and Photo 2 thumbnails:
However, I have noticed two things:
1. If the file is currently open in Photo, the thumbnail won't update. I have to close it.
...and...
2. Simply refreshing the view in XnView MP won't cause the thumbnail to appear. I have to navigate away and back to the folder.
But once that's done it's been working for me. Please note the preview thumbnail in an afphoto file is small, often only 512 pixels across.
Also, I just noticed something interesting... I can double click on some afphoto files and they'll open fullscreen in XnView MP, while others (seemingly consistent except for the actual visual content) will launch Photo and open there instead. Weird.

Hi Len
Thanks for the reply. I tried your solution, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Actually, as you can see in my second post on this thread it wasn't working for me either. But then it was. And it still does. No idea why but keep trying.

Re: Please add Affinity Photo v2 support
A friend has given me a method which has now been working perfectly for two weeks.
Open Notepad in Windows
enter exactly: start /b affinityphoto2.exe %1
exit
Click Save, select All file types and save the file to the Desktop as "AffPhoto2.bat
In XnViewMp select Open With and then Configure Programs
Browse to AffPhoto2.bat on the Desktop and select it and it will show in the Configure programs list
Should now appear in Open With and will then open the image in Affinity Photo 2
Hope this helps.

It seems you need to go to:
Settings - General - Check "Show all graphic formats"
This worked for me.

I had the same problem today. Thanks to the tips and answers in this thread the problem was solved ... after a few restarts and rebuildings of the miniatures.
