Fit image to window does not work at all, images are displayed 1:1 when opened

Tested:
permanent setting Auto image size 'Fit image to window'
permanent setting Auto image size 'Fit image to window, large only'
permanent setting Auto image size 'Last used' + temporary setting 'Fit image to window'
JPG, PNG

Yes, I changed Settings>View - Auto image size. This is what I meant with 'permanent' setting.
But it does not work, images are displayed 1:1 when opened.
The recent update to XnviewMP 1.4.3 did not make it better, so I came back to my post, to see - no action taken

The feature I need is 'fit image to window, large only'
This should be set permanent, also for the next/previous file.

Strangly it seems I am the only one who notices this problem.
Everything OK with your installation? Do you use this feature?
You are welcome to visit me with teamviewer, if you can not reproduce the bug.

The option "Reset 'Auto image size' setting with next/previous file" is UNchecked. What is the purpose of this option, by the way? I don't understand the wording and I have no imagination of the motiv. "Reset" back to which state? If 'Auto image size' is going to be reset for every new image, this is no automatic any more! Makes no sense for me, sorry I don't get it.

To tell a curiosity, I've been after the 'auto zoom' function for 22 years now:
Back in 2001, we emailed, no forum that time, and you fixed it !

In browser, i open an image, and the fit is correct

When opening an image, what do you have in 'View>Auto image size' menu?

I have 'no fit' in View - Auto image size,
even though the Tools - Settings - View - View - Auto image size is set to 'Fit image to window, large only'

Only, if I change to 'Fit image to window, large only'' in the viewer, it stays that way for the next/previous image, and for double-click on an image in the XNViewMP-browser. But it works only in the internal workflow, and only until the application is closed. On re-opening XNViewMP the tools-settings are ignored.

It does not work with Windows integration: When I double click on an image in Windows Explorer, even with XNViewMP already running and all setting properly made, both, the Auto image size setting in the Viewer and also the Auto image size setting in the tools-settings are ignored.

The expected behavour would be that the tools-settings get applied when ever the application ist launched, which implies that the tools-settings get copied to the Viewer settings (except if the tools-setting ist 'last used'). If the Viewer setting gets changed by the user further on, this shall overrule the tools-setting until the application is closed. When I double click on an image in Windows explorer, the standard application which is XNViewMP on my PC, is going to be launched or foregrounded and the image should be presented within XNViewMP with the view settings applied.

i found that you have 'locked zoom' so you need to uncheck it

True! Without zoom lock, Auto image size works well. Interacting features, no bug.

If you change in 'edit mode' the auto image size in menu, when prev/next image 'auto image size' need or not to be reset to 'settings>View>auto image size'
