No font smoothing?
Last time I saw fonts unsmoothed like this was when I used some software made for Windows XP...

This suggestion is totally wrong.
A good application should take into account the system-wide settings. If the user disables anti-aliasing at the system level, then the app should not apply font smoothing either. If it did, it would be a serious bug.
Having a dedicated setting might be an option if the app uses something non-native like Java. This is clearly not the case here, and as far as I can tell, XnView MP behaves correctly: I disabled font smoothing system-wide, and it doesn't try to blur anything.
