Easy way to switch back and forth between thumbnail and folder?

I use xnview with the folder tree on the left, and thumbnails on the right.

Is there a way to configure a keyboard button to switch my select cursor back and forth between a thumbnail and a folder? A way to keep my hands on the keyboard and not have to grab the mouse to make the switch?

The tab button will do this but not without cycling through several locations first. I want to only go between the thumbnails and the folders with one key press.

I've been looking for this feature and experimenting so far with no luck, and haven't found any suggestions online.

F6 does nothing.

Is the function mapped to the keyboard? What is it called?

F6 works for me in Browser mode
