App UI - tab - rework Dirty indicator

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.4.4 64bit
Windows11 (22H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Suggestion
rework unsaved(dirty) file indicator:
- use dot (●) instead of asterisk (*)
- show it over close button, but reveal x onHover (eg like in VisualStudio/Code, Notepad, Aseprite)
app_ui_rework_dirty_indicator.png
it may require to add an option to revert to old design though

Dirty = modified, so this is about unsaved mark for a file.
I've added few more words to the post.

Thanks for the explanation, my concern was that I had never seen that symbol before, is it widely used?

If the symbol is widely used and would therefore be widely recognised by XnView users it could be used, but in any case a warning is provided when closing the tab of an unsaved image...

dot has exact same behaviour as current asterisk (*),
the only difference - it is located on top of x, hiding it untill file is saved or mouse cursor is moved over dot (it shows x than).

well, if you are asking for explanation, than it is not )
I've seen it only in 3 products so far

it may require to add option to revert to old design
