When in Interface > Mouse Left Button set to Move Picture and Use "Pan and Zoom" tool is checked try open image and press and hold left mouse button, it does zoom and pans as long as left mouse button is held.
However if you hold mouse button and press + key on the keyboard to zoom even more and try moving the mouse, zoom shifts aside.

i think that zoom key should be disabled during mouse press

To me its a good feature to allow more zoom while holding mouse to pan, especially useful for photographers to check if there is motion blur on the portrait you need to zoom in a lot and frequently and this process currently is very slow in XnView MP, please refer to this feature request.
