Question
How does sidecar work in XnViewMP?
I have clean XnViewMP and enable "Update or create XMP sidecar" in Settings,
but jpg/png files continue to overwrite and no sidecars creates.
For example in Lightroom it is enough to enable this setting
Sidecar - how does it work?

Re: Sidecar - how does it work?
my bad, I did not dig deep enough
I was excited about Lightroom's ability to write image editing data into sidecars (to use it as non-destructive editing).
Unfortunately, it looks like I was not aware about limitations of this feature:
- works only for camera RAW files
- works only withing Adobe software
XnViewMP saves regular metadata in sidecars as expected.
