When we do a Save As we expect to save the current work to a new file, that the old file is closed and the editor stays with the new file.
This is standard behavior.
When we do a Save As, it creates a new file but the editor stays with the old file.
So if we keep doing modifications and we want to save work to the new file we cant use the "Save" command we have to do a save as and go overwrite the new file. This behavior is unexpected and it made me lose original photos several times.
What XnView currently does, creating a new file and staying with the old file, as what is called "Save Copy As" in some software, notably Microsoft Office.
I propose two solutions.
1. Create a second command called Save Copy As that does what the actual Save As does. Make the Save As command do what is normally expected of a Save As.
2. Keep a single Save As command but make the new file open in a new tab and activate the tab. Use will be able to close whichever one he wants.
Save As command actually saves a copy and stays with the original file
