1.5.0 - XnView MP opens RAR/ZIP files instead of associated program

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to XnView MP, and I've noticed a few bugs unfortunately.

When I press "enter" on a .rar or .zip file in the file browser, XnView MP no longer opens the associated program (WinRAR in my case).

In the settings (Browser/File list/custom filter) Archives are marked as "Visible", no thumbnail / no preview obviously, and "Open With" is set to associated program.

I've tried setting the associated program again, but to no avail, XnView MP keeps opening the .rar or .zip file and shows the contents in the file browser.

Can this be solved please?

Unfortunately I'm not really sure which version I had prior to installing the 1.5.0 version...

I reverted to the 0.93.1 (because I still had this installer somewhere), but in between I've updated XnView MP a few times, so the version should be higher than 0.93.1 .

In any case, when I select an archive file in the XnView file list and press "enter", the 0.93.1 version opens WinRAR (as I would expect it to).

yes right, the settings 'open' is not used for archive. As a workaround you can use F3

Sorry for the very late reply.

Since I don't know exactly what version, RAR files have always opened in WinRAR when pressing enter. However, since switching to 1.7.2, the issue is back and sometimes the RAR file opens in WinRAR, sometimes as a file listing in XNViewMP.

I have no idea why it happens like this, there's nothing I can spot in the RAR files to decide for one or the other.

Could you look into this please? It was very convenient to open RAR files this way!

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.9.0. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
