1.5.4 Barely any video thumbnails

Post by philalethia »

Now I've always encountered the rare occasional video file, that doesn't get a thumbnail, for some inexplicable reason
..but after the upgrade to 1.5.4, almost no video, gets a thumbnail!
At first, I thought that none of them did, but when I checked a folder with only videos, I noticed a few had thumbnails.

This is on my Windows 7 computer. My other computer, running Linux, seemed to show thumbnails, just as before
...but then I checked "About", and notice that it says it's still version 1.5.2.
Even after I upgraded.
So https://download.xnview.com/XnViewMP-linux-x64.deb, is apparently version 1.5.2...

Edit: So, of course, what I've written in Quick Search within categories, right before this post, also only applies to the Windows computer.

Could you post a sample file?

Why?
The files that get a thumbnail, are the exception, so...

I can assure you, that I installed the file, https://download.xnview.com/XnViewMP-linux-x64.deb ...and it is 1.5.2

I'll post a relatively small video, among the countless ones, that don't get a thumbnail.

it works here on win 10, do you have 'show as thumbnail' for video in 'Settings>Filelist>Custom filter'?
I can assure you, that I installed the file, https://download.xnview.com/XnViewMP-linux-x64.deb ...and it is 1.5.2
i've tried to install the .deb and its 1.5.4

Of course. Why else would I have had thumbnails, before?
I double-checked, but... I really didn't need to.
Also, surely that only applies, when using the custom filter, and not when you choose "filter by" video? ...and I've used both, with the same results, in terms of video thumbnails.
i've tried to install the .deb and its 1.5.4

...
I said I had them, in all previously installed versions, in the initial post.
Why wouldn't I?
(though, strictly speaking, I never used/installed 1.5.3, but went from 1.5.2, to 1.5.4, so no. I didn't have them in 1.5.3, as I never used it)
I also have them, in the Linux computer, obviously.
what file size do you have for the .deb?
I didn't save it, but re-downloading it... it is 48 246 406 B (I can't be sure, that it's still the same file, as when I installed it)

Could you try to replace mdk.dll from 1.5.2 or 1.5.3 to 1.5.4 folder?

it's the 1.5.4 package

And where would I get it from?
it's the 1.5.4 package
Then you must have updated it, since I installed it.

Edit: I checked the zip-download of XnViewMP, and copied the mdk.dll from there (renaming the mdk.dll that is present, into mdk.dll.bak) ...which resulted in XnViewMP, not running, but instead getting an error message. Removing it, and re-renaming the original file, fixed that.
I'm tempted to simply install 1.5.2, to "upgrade" from 1.5.4 to 1.5.2.

No, perhaps a cache problem...
