Batch processing output folder not remembered

Batch processing does no longer remember the output folder, in version XnView MP Windows Version 1.5.3 64bits (Aug 11 2023). It doesn't matter whether the output folder exists or not.
In the version before (XNViewMP 1.4.5) XnViewMP did remember the output folder, and it did not matter whether it existed - it got created.
The processing steps are still remembered.

yes, all other options are saved, I do have 5 steps with none enabled, this all gets saved.

In between, reverting to version 1.4.5 the output folder "c:\users\myname\Desktop\out" doesn't get remembered anymore, which it did, before I installed 1.5.3. I even copied back the settings file from a backup (due to having lost the 5 steps). And I don't see a reason why 1.4.5 remembered before, but doesn't now.
