Unable to edit HEIC

I am using XnView MP v1.6.3 on macOS Sonoma. I cannot edit HEIC files. Every time I try to say rotate a HEIC photo, a box jumps out and says "This file uses a nonwritable format, so it's not possible to rotate it."

currently, there is only read only support for heic on MacOS
