images with background removed show image with background

I recently deleted my .ini setting file by accident and while I have most everything back to normal I am having an issue with transparent png files.

here is my original image

background removal via photoshop

The thumbnail shows up as expected, sans background

However when entering view mode I am shown the original image encased in a white border

Every other image viewer displays correctly

I'm not sure if this is a bug or some sort of exotic feature I'm just not privy to. I've never seen anything like it. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Please try activating Use alpha channel (Ctrl+H) in the View menu.
