WebP missing from Mac 1.99

Post by velo145 »

Hi,

I downloaded newest version today and want to be able to convert from PNG to WebP.

However, the Output format for WebP is missing.

I found this post from earlier last year in response to someone else saying Webp was there before, but then missing:
(viewtopic.php?f=79&t=44816&p=184986&hil ... bp#p184986)

Re: WEBP export format is no longer available

Download NConvert-macosx64.tgz and extract the following files into the Plugins subdirectory of your XnConvert installation:

libwebp.dylib
libwebpmux.dylib
libwebpdemux.dylib

I followed the instructions above, copying those three dylib files into the plug-ins directory, but still no webp.

Is there something I can do?

I am also missing WebP since v1.99 (I can't convert from or to WebP, and it's not in the list of output formats). And I also tried v1.100.1. Same problem there.

I use macOS 10.14.6 ... I know, it's old (I need it for some 32 bit software) ... can this be the problem?

If I try to convert a webp to jpg for example, there is no preview of the webp (like in v1.95) and the status says "not a picture" and "Loading error(s)" if I press "Convert".

I could check it with v1.95 – webp is there and the conversion works, so I currently have to use v1.95 (I don't have v1.96 to 1.98, and found no older versions to download on your website to check).

And I also tried the possible workaround with a folder "Plugins" with libwebp.dylib, libwebpmux.dylib, libwebpdemux.dylib from NConvert in the folder of XNConvert (or do they have to be put somewhere else?) – it did not work with XNConvert v1.99 and v1.100.1

:( Oh, how sad that this affects webp in particular. I used XNConvert mainly for this. (But good that v1.95 is working fine for webp in macOS 10.14.)

Perhaps this should be mentioned in the system requirements ...
Do you know if v1.95 is the last version for macOS 10.14? Or is it possible to use (and download) v1.96, 1.97 or 1.98?

And it's not possible to implement (additionally) an older (working) library for older versions of the macOS?

Is it possible to download v1.96, 1.97 or 1.98 somewhere to try it out?

Thank you for the link! Would be nice to publish this link somewhere on the download page. And by the way – there is a link at the page for NConvert to an "Archive section" (in the sentence: "Are you looking for another version of NConvert ? You may find it in the Archive section") which only goes to an anchor on the same page.

I tried it out now with macOS 10.14.6 and v1.96 and 1.98 (a version 1.97 doesn't seems to exist) and the result was:

webp is missing since v1.96 under macOS 10.14.6. The last version with webp for macOS 10.14.6 is v1.95 from 2021/12 (but this is working fine for webp and macOS 10.14).

Screenshot from v1.96:
NO webp in the list of output formats (screenshot v1.96).png
