Interupt slideshow… how?

Hi from another newbie!
Using xnview mp on a mini Mac (10.13.6) for the first time. Managed to put together material for a slideshow. Some 250 pictures altogether. When viewing them in the slideshow, I realized some were out of order. Wanted to stop slideshow immediately to edit and… nothing normal (esc or CMD-q) worked. Had to endure the full length.
Is there a key combination that will allow breaking out of the slideshow?
