Clarify what XnView MP/Tools/Settings/Catalog/Synchronize Folders... does

Post by mkc73 »

Does it go through all the folders listed in the Catalog Maintenance window and remove any file entries in the catalog not present in those?

If Settings/Metadata/automatically import XMP .. to Catalog's Categories is selected does synchronize folders also synchronize Categories in the Catalog?

Thank you for your response.

Just out of interest what would synchronize Categories do to the catalog for a webP file (that has no XMP data) that has changed and has an entry in the catalog - presumably nothing?

How can I populate the category Maintenance window with folders ?
Presumably when I open a folder it goes into the window.
If I use 'right click/Show files in subfolders' presumably it adds sub-folders to the window (recursively?)
Does 'setting/Catalog/Import Folder' populate the window (recursively?) ?

I am still trying to find a good way of initializing a catalog from image category data stored in a directory of images with too many sub-folders to open each manually. I am not sure why clicking on the top folder in the directory and using Show Files in Subfolders does not do what I want but is does not seem to fully recursively populate the catalog from sub-folders?

If you have a file that has changed, rating&categories will be readed, so you have no XMP or sidecar, rating&categories will be empty

Hi Pierre

Cannot reproduce - seems to work OK - presumably I did not wait long enough for all the images to load.
