HEIC format image with 10 bit depth failed to open

Post by marktutu »

The HEIC format image with 10 bit depth cannot be opened with the latest XnViewMP on MacBook Pro with M1. But it can be opened in Preview and Safari.

I use magick to convert a tiff format image to heic format. The command line on terminal is "magick input.tiff -depth 10 output.heic"

Thanks.

Since the system does not allow to attach an image with file extension HEIC, I changed it to JPEG.

But I still get an error "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct."

So How can I give you an HEIC format image?

If any HEIC file is a regular color bit depth 8, there is no any problem to open it with XnView. But if it is with color bit depth 10 or above, then XnView cannot open it. But MacOS Preview or Safari can open it without any problem.

The interesting thing is that the same HEIC file can be opened with XnView on MacOS M2 Sonoma but MacOS M1 Sonoma.

It is an HEIC format image with bit depth 10. But it is not reported correctly on XnView.
