b1: Renamed image stops thumbnail rendering.
This happens when 'recognize only by extension' is used:
Any jpg/gif renamed png causes thumbnail rendering to halt/freeze.
One could encounter this when looking through downloaded images which have been misnamed.

Re: Renamed image stops thumbnail rendering.
But if you have 'recognize only by extension', it's normal that thumbnail can not be created for a jpeg file with .png extension for example.marsh wrote:This happens when 'recognize only by extension' is used:

Re: Renamed image stops thumbnail rendering.
It does freeze program when this occurs though- it is necessary to use task manager to exit program.xnview wrote:But if you have 'recognize only by extension', it's normal that thumbnail can not be created for a jpeg file with .png extension for example.marsh wrote:This happens when 'recognize only by extension' is used:

You have a freeze of XnView?marsh wrote:It does freeze program when this occurs though- it is necessary to use task manager to exit program.xnview wrote:But if you have 'recognize only by extension', it's normal that thumbnail can not be created for a jpeg file with .png extension for example.marsh wrote:This happens when 'recognize only by extension' is used:

Here is an example file but it isn't really needed- the problem can be recreated with any jpg

Re: Renamed image stops thumbnail rendering.
I can't reproduce it. So you rename a jpg file into .png, and browse your folder with this file. And here you have the freeze??marsh wrote:Here is an example file but it isn't really needed- the problem can be recreated with any jpg

Re: Renamed image stops thumbnail rendering.
Yes- and thumbail rendering for other files is halted when that renamed file is encountered, but only in a thumbnail view and when 'recognize by extension' is used.xnview wrote:I can't reproduce it. When I place file by itself in a directory (and look at it in TH&Details view), I can preview it- but when I try and leave directory again I sometimes see a windows box saying "program is not responding".
Xnview hides other misnamed images when 'recognize by extension' is used (a gif renamed jpg is hidden after thumbnails are rendered).
Ok, I can reproduce this bug using the options above:
- Rename a JPG to PNG
- That file no longer has a thumbnail which is OK
- Rename the PNG back to JPG
- XnView Freezes!
- Rename a JPG to PNG
- That file no longer has a thumbnail which is OK
- Rename the PNG back to JPG
- XnView Freezes!

So is it?
- Open browser
- Rename a jpg to png
- Change to another folder
- Go back to the folder
- Rename png to jpeg
right?
Pierre.
Can't reproduce it either, possibly since something else is going wrong for me:
In Beta 1 when renaming from JPG to PNG, the thumbnail is still displayed. Even leaving the directory, cleaning the cache and browsing the directory, again, will show the thumbnail. ("Recognize only by extension" is checked (!)).

The easiest way to recreate problem:xnview wrote:I don't use cache too, but do you reproduce when using:marsh wrote:I was not using thumbnail cache (maybe that will help). I can recreate this with v.1.80.3 also.
- Open browser
- Rename a jpg to png
- Change to another folder
- Go back to the folder
- Rename png to jpeg
?
1. Use ms explorer first to rename jpg.
(Ex: test.jpg to test.png or test.jpg.png)
2. Start "Browse with Xnview" on ms explorer directory containing misnamed file.
3. Now Xnview freezes while creating thumbnails.
No chance to reproduce this. Could you please try with brandnew settings (rename or remove 'xnview.ini')? What's your JPG files' size (file size and image size)?marsh wrote:The easiest way to recreate problem:xnview wrote:I don't use cache too, but do you reproduce when using:marsh wrote:I was not using thumbnail cache (maybe that will help).
