Instruments - effect scaling - improve intensity

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.7.2 64bit
Windows11 (23H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Instruments - effect scaling
effect of some tools is too strong way before it reaches 100%, eg
Saturation
at 50% effect is already excessive, in other apps it does not reach such extreme even at 100% (only in Photoshop at 90%)

Suggestion
  • improve instrument 's effect intensity scaling
for Saturation, Brightness, Contrast, Lightness, etc
    options, eg:
    • decrease max scale by ~x5-10 (ACDSee, FastStone, CaptureOne, DxO)
    • change scaling from linear to parabola (something like Photoshop?)
as end (extreme) values are rarely required, most adjustments happens in the low-mid range, eg

I was going to post a new thread about the uneven sensitivity of contrast, brightness and saturation since a few versions back but I think it's related to this.
It used to be that tiny incrementals made big changes, especially in saturation, but now virtually nothing happens between -30 and +30.
Seems like the gradient of changes could be better adjusted.
