b1: Filter option/page improvements
Filter name should be renamed, since enabled = show (to File Handling?).
Extensions - remove "E.g. EPS..." and merge Extensions... and field [ . . . ] to 1 row.
Add fixed option "EPS..." files below Text files.
Completely remove "exclude list" - replace it with "Custom files"or even merge this option into one row:
[abc def ghi ] files . . . [x] [ ] [x] [x]
It would be clearer and same as other options, if someone wants to exclute filetype, he will unmark [x] to [ ].

Some thoughts of mine:
Seems like you forgot to remove the settings under "Browser -> File List" which are now obsolete (Items shown in ... mode).
In the browser's "Filter" settings it should be possible to disable "Files smaller than" by typing "0" into the text fields. Currently putting a "0" in there will show you no preview at all, which is useless since you can as well turn it off then.
It's not very clear that the "Exclude" checkbox and the text field below are related.

Re: Filter option/page improvements
I agree. The options are the opposite of a Filter, it's the list of files shown I suggest to use "File List" for this category and rename the other one.Dreamer wrote:Filter name should be renamed, since enabled = show (to File Handling?).
Not clear what you mean here.Dreamer wrote:Extensions - remove "E.g. EPS..." and merge Extensions... and field [ . . . ] to 1 row.
Right.Dreamer wrote:Add fixed option "EPS..." files below Text files.
The way the Custom extension are now is really confusing. It just says "Extensions (separated by a space)...)" and nothing else.Dreamer wrote:Completely remove "exclude list" - replace it with "Custom files"or even merge this option into one row:

Yes, "0" shouldn't be allowed.Danny wrote:In the browser's "Filter" settings it should be possible to disable "Files smaller than" by typing "0" into the text fields. Currently putting a "0" in there will show you no preview at all, which is useless since you can as well turn it off then.
Right. This has been heavily discussed in topic File Inclusion/Exclusion. The way it is now is really confusing.Danny wrote:It's not very clear that the "Exclude" checkbox and the text field below are related.
I mean - remove TEXT "E.g. EPS...", but this would be better and clearer:Not clear what you mean here.
[abc def ghi ] files . . . [x] [ ] [x] [x]
There could be some note below that there must be space between filetypes.
I agree, it's a standard in other programs...Danny wrote:IMO "0" should be possible, but it should disable any kind of size limiting.
Minor - I don't like this " - " if option is not possible to set, I suggest appropriate greyed out checkbox [x] / [ ].
I think that's a good idea. Having the edittext on the top and only have a note how to use this field at the bottom.Dreamer wrote:I mean - remove TEXT "E.g. EPS...", but this would be better and clearer:Not clear what you mean here.

No. We have another option for disabling, so we shouldn't misuse this option. Otherwise people will say: I have option to show preview checked, but it's not shown.
I don't like the fat "-" either, it should be simply a bit thinner. Greyed-out checkboxes would be wrong, user will wonder: What do I have to do to make the non-grey and enabled? (Screen design rule: Never display a control if the user can never change it).Dreamer wrote:Minor - I don't like this " - " if option is not possible to set, I suggest appropriate greyed out checkbox [x] / [ ].
You still don't understand. A "0" should disable the size limit so thumbnails and previews for files of all sizes will be shown. There's currently no setting to do this. All you can do is set a very big number in those fields like 99999.helmut wrote:No. We have another option for disabling, so we shouldn't misuse this option. Correct. Grayed-out means possible under certain circumstances.Dreamer wrote:Minor - I don't like this " - " if option is not possible to set, I suggest appropriate greyed out checkbox [x] / [ ].

If you want to allow files with any size you canDanny wrote:... You still don't understand. A "0" should disable the size limit so thumbnails and previews for files of all sizes will be shown. ... enter 99999
... clear the field
When entering "0", some people will expect that all files with be disallowed, other will expect that all files are allowed. An easy way to prevent misunderstandings is by simply by disallowing "0".

99999 would be 99MB. Far less than a lot of movie files. Have you actually tried clearing the field? Next time you open the program there's a "0" in there....
And what sense does it make to disallow any filesize this way? That's the same as disabling the preview function. But you can do that via "View" menu and you'll get more free window space on top of that -> far more usefull. So anyone expecting different hasn't put enough thought into it.
And as Dreamer already mentioned: most other programs (all that i know) work that way. 0 means disabled. (Azureus for example)
There could be a note below, we could use *, **...helmut wrote:No. We have another option for disabling, so we shouldn't misuse this option. BTW - I think similar option should be also for View / Fullscreen mode, now it's a bit confusing. If you agree, please start a new topic.
Currently you can enter "9999999999999" which should be sufficient for most cases. (Personally I think that this limit is not so good since there are no thousand separators. Also for "No limit" another way might be found, see below).Danny wrote:...

Currently, we have an Alpha version, so things may not work 100% properly. This is why we discuss here.Danny wrote:Have you actually tried clearing the field? Next time you open the program there's a "0" in there....
Exactly. As written above the value "0" is not clear and for this reason it should not be allowed. This is why I suggested an error message when entering "0". In the error message there could be even a short explanation which values are valid.Danny wrote:And what sense does it make to disallow any filesize this way? A second way to make this clearer is by replacing "0" and the maximum value "9999999999999" with something more meaningful when leaving the field. E.g. the field could be cleared (empty), or a value "No limit", "Any", or "*" could be shown.
A third way is introducing a checkbox which enables/disables each limit (what we have in 1.80). But I think this would be confusing since we have many checkboxes on this category page, already.
A fourth way is dropdownlists: The dropdownlists could contain a value for "No limit" and meaningful, predefined limits. E.g.,
No limit
1 GB
100 MB
10 MB
1 MB
100KB
10 Kb
When choosing one of the predefined limits, the appropriate value in kilobytes would be entered in the field. Sure enough, apart from predefined values the user could enter arbitrary values.
Hmm, that's an argument, but I don't think that this is a known and good standard. I guess in the programs you are refering to it says "Do not show files larger than". In this case, a "0" for all files makes sense and is logical since all files are larger than 0 KBytes. But in our case it says "Show files smaller than".Dreamer wrote:And as Dreamer already mentioned: most other programs (all that i know) work that way. 0 means disabled. (Azureus for example)
Personally I favour the "dropdownlists" approach. I think this would be clear regarding the value "No limit". And the predefined values also make things clearer and are convenient to use.
EPS is like PSDreamer wrote:Added, but why there is "AI" instead of "EPS"?Dreamer wrote:All fixed/changed except this:
Add fixed option "EPS..." files below Text files.
RightAlso, now we have these filetypes twice, so I suggest to change text "e.g. "EPS PDF PS"" and default text below "EPS EPSF PS PDF" to e.g. EXE BAT COM...
