Import and Sort help wanted

Hi everyone, please help me by telling me how you import photos and videos into XnView MP from your cameras and phones with Import and Sort. I am coming from Picasa. I import photos and videos into date taken folders, usually I add a short description to the folder name. In Picasa the import window let me select the photos I wanted to import from my cards/devices by showing thumbnails of all of the media on the card/device. I have found the Import and Sort tool but it does not show thumbnails. Is there another way to import or do you just use the tool's date range options to import the required files?

I would also like to know how you manage your saved edited photos. When I saved an edited image in Picasa it would hide the original photo inside a hidden folder. I liked this way of doing things because my collection looked neater. However this does have it's drawbacks.l, e.g. if I wanted to re-edit the original. How do you store edited photos? Put them in an "edits" folder inside the folder with the originals, put them in a different folder somewhere else, save alongside the original, or something else I haven't thought of? I'd like to keep edits with the originals but it looks cluttered having edits alongside the originals and if my family look at the photos on my PC it would be nice if they could not see the originals of the images I decided needed an edit. I suppose I could manually move the originals to an "originals" folder but I'd probably mess it up at some point
