XnViewMP 1.8.0 64-bit (Mac OSX): 5-7 sec delay when navigating between photos

My apologies if this problem has already been reported or resolved. I've searched, but maybe I'm not using the correct terms.

When browsing a folder of ~60 jpg images that are ~3-5mb in size, there is a long delay (5-7 sec) when using the keyboard to navigate either forward or backwards. This doesn't happen for every photo, the program gets consistency stuck with some photos.

These are photos taken with a Sony a6400 in xfine mode (jpg). I've also searched for problems related to sony jpg. I naively tried to uninstall and reinstall XnViewMP. I also tried rebuilding.

Thank you for this software! I'm making the transition from PC-->Mac. I previously used faststone. XnViewMp has filled that hole for me!

I've updated to 1.8.2 and unfortunately the issue still persists.

are you able to reproduce with 2/3 image files in a folder?

Yes even with a only 4-5 photos in a directory it still freezes for 4-5s. What's interesting is that I've mapped keys to tag & untag an photos as important (I'm going through hundreds of photos usually), and when I'm navigating between photos using the arrow keys, and it freezes between them, I can hit one of the mapped keys I use and the photo will advance. I'm happy to send a video of this if it helps, it just would need to be private since the photos are from my kids' soccer games and I don't know how the parents would feel about it.
