XnView MP 1.8.0 - changing viewed picture, forgetting some pictures in folder

When browsing through folder with a lot of random pictures from various sources... viewer starts to behave very weird.

When I open it on random picture it sometimes change to a different picture... and when I'm scrolling the "number of the picture/all the pictures" suddenly change very weirdly.

So I open one picture - it immediately changes into another, that is 646/702 in the folder... And when I'm scrolling through... It immediately changes to 240/243... And I cannot go to the picture I was viewing before.

But when I change to browser it shows 703 objects.

When I open the picture, it opens but when I scroll same thing happens again.

Sometimes browser autoscrolls (and not in slideshow, very rapidly).

I tried reinstalling (it was in previous version, so I upgraded to 1.8, bug persisted)
I triend deleting recent files and folders

And I do not know what to do except purgin my profile and maybe set it up from the beggining, but I tweaked lot of things (image sizes, hotkeys for tagging) and I would rather not. I like XnView and I evangelise it everywhere but this really bothers me.

As described seems very strange, to eliminate one possible factor, a sort order issue, you might check your browser View > Sort by settings...

Problems are only in Viewer.

But Browser settings for sorting are "Name, Ascending, Name - Numeric order"

I found something particular tho.

When I cleaned metadata on .jpgs, browser after scrolling stopped jumping to #/243 but #/444... And when I cleaned metadata on all .jpegs then it started jumping to #/639

However .jpg + .jpeg are only 613 of the pictures.

there are 70 .png, 9 .webp, 44 gifs, so numbers dont fit that some of them are ommited...
And there are no metadata to clean on those...

I'm trying to troubleshoot in weird ways now.

What it seems to me, that after some scrolling through pictures some "filter" gets applied and hide some images...

And after I bruteforce purged metadata from all jpegs.. they stopped being hidden by mystery filter that gets applied. But not from the get go, but after a while scrolling through pictures which is the weirdest thing about it.

Right now I found out that i have like milion entries in "category list" which I don't use at all so I will try to purge categories altogether if that helps... I'm really trying anything that comes to mind out of the box, because I did not find anything ordinary about it.

Take a look at the browser setting View > Filter by... which I have never used, and didn't suggest before as it didn't obviously seem to fit...

That i checked after you pointed to sort by.
It's set on All / All

Another weird symptom:

I got rid of some files, that are weird, all webp files and so on, but still problem persists. Only in lesser way.

But if I open file, it shows its 58/691... and after a while, if I for example click on "tools" in toolbar or "effects"... it changes to 58/628 even when I'm not scrolling.

Have you tried a reboot or simply closing and relaunching XnView MP? Purely wild guesses if you are short of ideas, the important thing when trouble shooting is to keep trying things even if they seem to make no sense...

Yep. I have this problem on and off for weeks. It's only in some folders that have many files.

I tried updating, reinstalling. Restarting...

Only right now I got annoyed enough to really try to solve the problem.

Only thing I did not try because I do not want to is purging profile and starting again.
But maybe I will try it if it persist for too long.

backup you 'profile' files (xnview.ini, default.keys, default.bar, DBs, etc)

update to latest version (1.8.2)
rename your xnview.ini (in app folder or user profile)
try to reproduce
