Tagging Images = What am I doing Wrong ?

I don't know whether it is a problem with me or a problem with my version of XnViewMP v1.7.0

I had never before used the image tagging feature, although I have used it for years in FastStone and am well familiar with how it works in that program.

So, I decided to tag some images in XnViewMP so as to select the tagged images for IPTC editing.

I used the Space Bar; and, with each image I tagged, a check-mark appeared in the little box upper-left of the thumbnail = so far, so good.

Then, when I go View > Tag > Show Tagged Files, all my thumbnails disappear, whether tagged or not.

To bring back my thumbnails, I go View > Tag and click Show Tagged Files again, at which point all my thumbnails reappear --- and all of my tags/checkmarks have disappeared as well --- and I am back to square one.

I looked in Settings and I can find no option to allow or disallow image tagging.

What am I missing or doing wrong ?

What else will Enabling Catalog enable ?

I think I disabled it ages ago to prevent it writing Keyword Tags.
