I need help to resize as I am starting with Microsoft Word. I type a label for a picture. I can do a screen shot, then paste into Xnview/ Xnresize. But no matter if I use Xnview or Photoshop or any other software, anything from Word has thicker muddier text from a screen capture. And I don't know how to fix this.
The final image I would like to be 322 pixels wide and a file size of 25k. The picture itself is good at these dims. But any text that I typed in Word and copy/ pasted is fuzzy in another graphic program. It looks beautiful in Word.
I know that Word has a setting for paste "picture enhanced metafile". In Design has a similar "paste in place". These will paste the actual picture rather than the fuzzy preview. Is it possible for Xnview to also have such a feature?
I am using a very old program to compress the final result, Winsoft Photorar. It gives excellent results for pictures. But again, a screen capture or a saved picture that I have added text and tried to resize smaller, the text is fuzzy. However, it is better than the programs I have tried so far.
Is there anything I can do to get better text results? Another question, since Winsoft apparently closed up shop and disappeared, can their wonderful photorar or something like it be incorporated into xnview? I know Riot can be added as a filter to Xnview. But Photorar is so much better.

Sadly that what you are trying to do is probably impossible, as an image with small pixel dimensions can not reproduce text to the quality you that need...janderson wrote: Wed Feb 28, 2024 5:16 am I need help to resize as I am starting with Microsoft Word. Note that you can add text to an image directly in XnView MP which will in general probably produce better quality text, but in this case is unlikely to solve your problem.
In general one topic per post works best, so if you don't receive a usefull response here it might be worth posting that again.Another question, since Winsoft apparently closed up shop and disappeared, can their wonderful photorar or something like it be incorporated into xnview? Re: Need help for good text results
I tried entering text directly into Xnview after resizing photo first to the dims I want (322 pixels wide). The result wasn't too bad, really surpsised me. But the text could be a little more clear. I used the add-on Riot to save with the dims I want, and with the larger 25k.
Adding text could do with a few features - there is an option for "center" horizontally but it doesn't so I have to eyeball it. The text would benefit by being able to center vertically also (in the white space)
I am enclosing an attachment of what I am trying to do. If I could get clearer results for text, Xnview would save me a huge amount of time and effort. I am doing a picture pedigree of Cass Ole, the star of the movie "The Black Stallion". Mansour is one of his ancestors.
I'll add my suggestions one at a time to the suggestion forum, thans.

Re: Need help for good text results
Hi Jane, I understand your concern about text clarity during resizing and compression. For a smoother workflow and better text quality, you might want to try adding text directly to the image using software like XnView MP, as you mentioned.
Re: Need help for good text results
I just tried making a pdf of my original assembly in M. Word (photo & text). Then cropped the page in a Pdf program, and compressed with Pdf Compressor. The results are the best ever.
However with a pdf, it isn't handy like jpg & other image files. Is there a way to make a pdf viewable without clicking first to open in a pdf program (or browser). This would really be good for uploading to Facebook, etc.
Thanks,
Janderson

Re: Need help for good text results
If you search online for something like 'facebook support pdf image?' you might possibly gain some insight into ways to address your problem.
One result from my very quick search: How to Add a PDF to a Facebook Post: Step-by-Step Guide.
I can't comment on that issue, but regarding text quality and filesize, PDF does support multiple layers so you could, in principle in a situation like this, place vector text which should reproduce optimally on a separate layer. Might possibly be useful for someone with a generally similar need in the future.
