XnView MP Metadata, user defined Categories in Edit IPTC dialog

I have created a couple of user defined subcategories under a predefined category, using the XnView MP / Category set pane which appears by default at the bottom of the XnView window. I have noticed that these user defined subcategories don't appear in the Categories tab of the XnView MP / Metadata/ Edit IPTC-IIM dialog. (observed in XnView MP 1.8.6)

Is this intentional? or is there something else that I must do in order to cause user defined subcategories to be included as available for assignment in the Edit IPTC dialog? If so, please explain (or if you would please explain or point me to the applicable documentation - thanks,

1. use XMP as IPTC is legacy
2. in IPTC-IIM dialog use Keywords tab instead of Categories tab

Category: As this metadata element was earmarked as deprecated already for IIM 4.1, it was not adopted. However, this data is still synchronised with the XMP property “photoshop:Category”, and hence available for future use – but outside the IPTC Core. For migrating from Category codes to Subject Codes please read the Guideline for mapping Category Codes to Subject NewsCodes section below.

Thank you for the reply, and explanation. I will try using Edit XMP instead as you suggest.

Fwiw, since there is no indication in the XnView UI (that I saw at least) that IPTC Categories & Subcategories were not fully functional in XnView MP, I was not aware that they are deprecated and therefore not fully supported. If I can suggest, it might be helpful in a future version of XnView if some indication (perhaps some info text Edit IPTC dialog Categories tab dialog in the or info message) could advise the user attempting to use IPTC categories and/or sub categories via XnView MP.
