OpenRaster image (.ora) support in XnView MP

I am a bit confused about whether the OpenRaster image (.ora) format actually is supported by XnView MP? I know there used to be a plugin for that format in XnView Classic (which was 32-bit only). Is a plugin still required, or is the format supposed to be natively supported in XnView MP since it is listed among the supported file formats?

When I browse a folder containing .ora files with XnView, the files do not appear when I have the filter set to show only Image files. They do show up when I filter for "Archives" or "All" (and for some reason with "Videos + folders"). I know the files technically are .zip files, but aren't they supposed to be shown as images?

The main problem, however, is that it does not seem that XnView MP actually can open .ora files? I have tried .ora files saved from GIMP, Krita, MyPaint, Drawpile, LazPaint, and Pinta. The files will open just fine in all those apps (plus File Viewer Plus) but not in XnView MP. I get an error message saying "File cannot be read" from all files except the one saved in GIMP. That file will, however, only show a small thumbnail and not the actual image.

OK, so I assume there is NO support for .ora files in XnView MP.

Thanks for adding the ORA-plugin to XnView MP!

I activated it and tested it on a folder with 44 random .ORA files, with mixed results:

- 30 files displayed correctly.
- 5 files displayed incorrectly (only showing a white background).
- 9 files caused XnView MP to crash.

I didn’t experience any issues with files that don’t contain layers, regardless of whether they were saved in GIMP, Krita, or MyPaint.

For files with layers, most saved in Krita and all saved in MyPaint worked fine. However, all the files that displayed incorrectly and about half of the files that caused XnView MP to crash were saved in GIMP.

The issue seems to be with GIMP, as further testing showed it struggles to save certain types of layers, especially text layers, correctly in .ORA files. These images don’t display properly in Krita or MyPaint, or even when reopened in GIMP. Hopefully, this will be resolved on their end eventually.

The remaining files that cause XnView MP to crash also contain layers, but they open fine in GIMP, Krita, and MyPaint. XnView MP crashes when I browse a folder containing one or more of these files or try to open them. I’ve submitted a crash report and can provide additional sample files if needed.
