1.8.7: png file "File can't be loaded", other viewer displays it

Post by postcd »

XnView: MP 1.8.7 - 64 bit Linux .deb
OS: Debian 12 with KDE

Opening image https://drive.proton.me/urls/QD2BM08EN4#6VxDBKWJ7AuX in mentioned version of a Xnview ends with "File can't be loaded". While other viewer (GwenView) displays the image.

Xnview terminal output https://pastebin.com/raw/5KUWxYGm
GwenView terminal output https://pastebin.com/raw/S8P09Uqj

As you can see GwenView said: Image format is actually "avif" not "png"
I would expect such message by Xnview instead of useless "File can't be loaded". Also the popup may prompt Close/Rename/Open as avif.

Renaming file to .avif allows Xnview to open it.
Linux user, .deb package. Use private services like Proton.me, not surveillance services like Google, Meta.
