1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
I want to write GPS coordinates to JPG XL via the edit metadata menu, but nothing is written. But if I use exiftool, there is no problem writing GPS to exif photo jxl
Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
I already mentioned this point: viewtopic.php?p=205315#p205315
Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
it works here, please send a jpegxl sample to reproduce

Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
I made some additional tests. There is a strange interaction between format and metadata (including GPS data but not limited to them)
1) I initially though that there was a specific issue with JXL files for "clean metadada" which is not available (greyed) for such files, but I have just noticed that it is also not available for TIF and PNG (works fine for JPG; I did not test for other formats)
2) If the JXL file is generated (batch convert) from a non-geotagged (but with some other exif metadada) TIF or PNG file with "preserve metadata', it is then indeed possible to add geolocation later to the JXL file. In contrast, if the JXL file was generated with "preserve metadata" unchecked, geotagging becomes impossible (but seems possible: values can be entered, one can click on "write", but nothing is written)
hope this helps

Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
Quite strange.
About 'clean metadata', I have just noticed that there is 2 locations for that, in the browser and in the viewer. The browser one is not available for TIF, PNG and JXL, but available for JPG, where cleaning is done losslessly. The viewer one is available for all these formats (including JXL) and does the work, even if there is no metadata to clean, and involves re-compressing the file to save it, which is problematic for lossy format such as JPG and JXL. At least for JPG there is the browser's clean that can be used losslessly, but not for JXL
About geolocation,, i attach a JXL file generated by batch-convert of XnViewMP from a TIF file with "preserve metadata" unchecked. No means on my side to add lon, lat or altitude values to this file using "edit GPS data"
ps. I zipped the file because jxl files cannot be directly uploaded

Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.9.0. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
The specific issue of writing geolocation data in the metadata of a jxl file has been solved in 1.9. Thanks.
Remains the issue of removing metadata using "clean" in the browser mode. It works for jpg files but does not work for jxl, png and tif files (and may be some other formats I did not test)
