Metadata not updating

Hello there

I am new to the forum, I been using the software with no problem doing a lot of digitalisation of old pics. Until suddenly a few days back I could no more update the metadata at all. I was doing that without any problem before. I have, since, updated the software to the latest version, 1.9.0 64-bit (MacOS,) however, it is not possible to write the metadata.

steps to reproduce?

I uploaded the files to XnView, selected the ones I want to update, clicked on the Metadata drop down, press the "Edit GPS data" or the "Edit XMP", entered the data and finally pressed "write all" or "write to all files" as I have been doing before and nothing happened.

Yes, mostly JPEG and a few Tiff. Same result with both of them.
