Hi!
I'm a rather new user to XNView MP, have it on my Linux Mint, Windows and Mac just because it is multi platform. Previously I used different program on different platforms. On Windows I used Faststone Image Viewer for example.
One thing thing I would wish for is that if one is in viewer mode in XNView MP and then clicks on an image and then uses the arrows to browse back and forth and then go back to the Viewer mode, the image that is marked in the viewer is the same image on started at and not the image one looked at last before going back to the viewer. I would wish for this to sync.
The other thing I find a little tricky in XNView MP is to magnify an image. I would like it to work the same as in Faststone Image Viewer where one just clicks on the image and it zooms to 100% and one can also with the mouse scroll around in the enlarged image and with the numeric keyboard also change magnification level.
Thanks and best regards from Sweden! / Anders

Regarding: "try 'Select file in Browser when Viewer tab is closed' in Settings > Interface"
Thanks, that did it! Then I change my suggestion to that this should be the default setting.
And that one can toggle it out instead, for those that don't want it working this way.
Regarding: "Shift+LMB"
Thanks again! I'd like to not need the shift button to activate the magnify, and also be able to change magnify level via the numerical keyboard keys.

Re: Easier image magnify and more consistent browsing
When I click on an image and hold the mouse button down it magnifies to 100%. When I release the mouse button it goes back to fit the screen. I do not use the SHIFT key. I do not recall if years ago I set an option to make this happen or if it is the default behavior. I think this is the same behavior I remember with Faststone on Windows.

When I click on an image I get the square marking tool (for cropping). I'm on the latest M-Mac version.
Re: Easier image magnify and more consistent browsing
Hmm, I have a vague memory a few years ago when I first started to use Xnview MP that I had the same behavior you have, but somehow I found a way to change it. I just now looked through the configuration options and I cannot find what I may have changed. I am using an Apple Silicon Mac, but I also have it on a Windows 11 PC and they both behave in this proper, easier way (click to enlarge without SHIFT key).
I hope someone here can tell us how to do it. I guess if I install it on a new machine I would not be able to figure out how to get this behavior back.
Over the years I have slowly learned configuration stuff and changed things because, like you, I often did not like the defaults. I learned something new today about the Select file in Browser when Viewer tab is closed option and that finally fixes another annoyance.
