Re: Submenus inside context menus
ok. It could be pretty large usability improvement. Not all programs have this but those who have have potential for much better usability.
Pretty good metrics is if you start measuring distance the mouse pointer travels in screen to accomplish task A, task, B, task C, etc...
Every time you have to do anything in File, Edit, View, Metadata, etc... menus the pointer travels considerable distance upwards and then back downwards.
Having fully customizable context menus would enable user to move everything he needs from these menus to the context menus and virtually eliminate need for the whole menu bar (and also toolbar). In that case he could even hide the menu bar (I read from somewhere that officially it cannot be hidden but somewhere in xnview.ni would be a setting to hide it?)

Hey! I was hunting through the top menus for ages looking for the wallpaper settings. Knowing it's tucked away in the right-click/context menu under 'File' or accessible via middle-click makes things so much easier.

In the main menu bar (at the top of the Window) it's on the Tools menu.GracyScott wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2026 6:37 am Hey! I was hunting through the top menus for ages looking for the wallpaper settings. The right-click/context menu is configurable. You can add/remove what you like.
Tools->Settings:Interface:Context Menu
Note that there are 3 different context menus configurable; for the file list in the Browser, for the Preview Pane in the Browser, and in the Viewer. There's a menu selection at the top of that settings page to choose the context menu you're editing.
