I am using XnView MP. I have a set of images that I would like to resize to produce smaller files sizes.
The dimensions of the original images is 5544 x 4154. The files size is typically 2.67Mb.
When I use the batch process to reduce the size 50%, when the images are saved as jpg, the resolution is halved, but the file size is almost double, over 4.7 Mb.
What accounts for this? How can I reduce both the dimensions of the image, and also get a smaller file size?
Thank you.
Resizing images by 50% doubles the file size?

On the Output tab, check the JPEG save settings...XnXo wrote: Mon Jun 30, 2025 11:23 pm When I use the batch process to reduce the size 50%, when the images are saved as jpg, the resolution is halved, but the file size is almost double, over 4.7 Mb.
Your resized images are probably being saved at a higher quality value than the original images, see Image > Properties... or 'i' icon on the toolbar.
