Removing cross that allows closing folder/ favorites windows

Post by romekromekromek »

Hello

I used to use Xnview Classic since version 2.13 on Windows and it is one of my favorites apps ever :) .

Recently I switched to Linux Mint and Xnview MP 1.9.2 (AppImage) and I have some questions.

1. I don't like this cross and square on the right of panels. How to disable them? Apparently this cross and square are visible for preview panel as well but somehow i managed to remove it but I can't recall how...

2. Another annoying thing is that in favorites panel I don's see folder structure underneath favorite folder. Is it possible to make folder structure visible on this panel? Other alternative for me would be possibility to hide every folder in folder panel besides my favorite one.

My general goal is achieve Xnview Classic-like experience :) .

I attach screen below.

I wasn't familiar with the icons you mentioned, but I was intrigued so I took a look. I was able to achieve what I THINK you want by going to View / Panels / Show Title of Panels (deselect this item). By doing this, the 'heading row' disappears completely, along with the 'x' and the other icon. This does get rid of the 'Favorites' heading also, but - that info is also visible at the side of the panel so you know which panel you are in.

I am curious, though ... the 'x' is simply a way to quickly close the panel; it's presence doesn't 'do' anything. Are you just bothered by it's existence?

In the process of experimenting, I messed up my own setup so maybe you can help me :) . I clicked on the 'other' icon -

This causes the window to 'pop out' of the frame, and become a separate floating window. The problem is, nothing I can find lets me 'put it back in the box' - it's now a forever floating window! Every option in the View / Panels area seems incapable of restoring me back to where I was! Oh well ...

To fix it you should drag favorites window to a side of a screen and it will dock.

In Xnview classic this button doesnt appear and I like it as it was before.

View / Panels / Show Title of Panels -> for me this is activated but in gray font so I cant disable it....

Interesting; I'm running XnView on my Win PC, my Mac, and the Win version on my Mac in a 'wine bottle' (I'm doing some testing ... trying to decide if I can migrate from Win to Mac, and being able to use XnView on the Mac is becoming crucial to that decision).

I can 'restore' the favorites window to the left area by dragging and dropping on both Win PC and Mac, but not in the 'wine bottle' config. Oh well, that's just a test environment anyway.

But in 'classic', was the 'title' ("Favorites") still present? Ie, a plain title without the windows controls?

That is odd! It's activated (with a 'check mark') in all three of my configs above, but in all three, I can deselect it and the title bar (and thus, the windows controls) disappear. Could this be a linux-specific thing? Do you have access to a PC or Mac to try?

I have noticed that this behaviour change if you chage Viev -> Layout. I use Film strip 2. When you change to for exaple layout 6 it behavees differently.

In classic as far as I can remember this title with cross wasnt visible at all but I'm not sure. I was used to use Xnview Classic 2.13.
