Way to reproduce (windows 11, xnmp 1.9.2.)
- double click mp4 file in file explorer, wait for couple of seconds
- double click another mp4 file in file explorer
- double click again the original mp4 file in file explorer
expected behaviour?
- on third double click original file plays from start
observer behaviour
- original file opens in pause on position it were in last time.
I am not sure if this is bug or intended behaviour? Anyway it slows down things when browsing through videos and behaviour is different from other viewers, I think.
There might be a use case for the remembered position as well. Well I am not sure about that, what do others here think? xnmp is not exactly a movie player and typical length of files is short. I see it more (the video part of it) as a tool to fast browse through material and delete unneeded videos.
Maybe there could be setting so that user can choose if he wants position to be remembered and also specify if second double click should be on pause or start instant play from saved position.

i've tried with your .ini, and the third file is played from start
I see that you have in this case multiple tabs opened...

What do you mean by having multiple tabs open? I don't use tabs at all in XNView MP.xnview wrote: Sat Aug 02, 2025 12:54 pm i've tried with your .ini, and the third file is played from start

I just tried again and the third time I double click is not from start but from middle paused.

tabs is always used but you dont show them. Show them and you understand...golemus wrote: Sat Aug 02, 2025 1:13 pm What do you mean by having multiple tabs open? I don't use tabs at all in XNView MP.

Re: Bug when double-click mp4 files consecutively?
ok, now I understand. I disabled the tab feature very early and almost forgot that it exists and didnt realize that every time I click anything a new tab is opened without my awareness. Couple of thoughts.
- it seems in the tests I made that this issue is solved by setting max amount of tabs to 1.
- if a person uses the tabs feature would he ever want to hide them while having the tabs being opened in background?
In my opinion answer is in at least 99% cases no. But would be good to have other opinions.
If majority agrees with this would it not make sense to modify the program in such way that when the tabs are hidden also the tab max amount changes to 1? So that there cannot come confusing situations where tabs are there, consume resources and affect program behaviour but user does not want that they are there? If this is implemented IMO it should not modify "Maximum of view tabs" variable so that if user has set it to 99 it is still 99 even when he/she is having a project where tabs are not needed.
Also couple of improvement suggestions related to tabs:
- In menu View are Tab - Show and Tab - Bottom options. I would modify in following way.
- replace this with "Tabs" that has checkbox like Titlebar and Status bar
- in Settings - Interface - Tabs make a new checkmark option "Tabs bar in bottom instead of top" e.g. above Hide Tab header checkmark. IMO it is much more logical there.
