MP 1.9.2 Windows -- Comment window fouled up.

After downloading a few JPEG files, I noticed that I was no longer able to edit JPEG comments directly. The checkbox marked "Description (stored in descript.ion file)" is the only one of the two checkboxes that gives me an editable window; checking the box marked "Use same text for description & comment" will grey it out immediately, and no longer gives me an edit window for just comments. Could this be due to a virus or malware? I've restarted my system and reinstalled from a freshly downloaded installer; neither seems to work.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
