Correspondence between IPTC fields

Post by massimo.peca »

Hi,
I can't find the field corresponding to "Description" among the IPTC fields in XnView.
Thank you.

Massimo

With ExifTool (used in xnViewMP as an AddOn) , we can find in your photo :
1) IPTC:Keywords : Venice, La Biennale, VIP, culture, famous, celebrities, film, news, people, photo, entertainment
2) IPTC:Headline : 81nd Venice international film festival, Venice, Italy
3) IPTC:Caption-Abstract : Venice, Italy, 3th Sept 2024, Taylor Russell, Massimo Peca - EventsImages / Alamy Live News

In XnViewMp "Edit IPTC" screen, these three fields are labelled :
1) Keywords ok
2) Headline ok
3) Caption ok

In Windows10 (translated from french)
1) Keywords
2) - - not shown ---
3) Title

I can't find the field shown in your 1st screenshot ("Description") ... It seems to be empty in the photo
----------
Maybe it can be
"IPTC:Object name" for ExifTool or "Document Title" for XnViewMP
But Windows10 will show this 4th field as "Title" : when Win10 reads this new "Title" field, it's then not able to show the (previous) value of "iptc:caption" field. Do not rely on Microsoft for consistent metadata management.

Thank you,
you have been most helpful. I will make attempts with the various fields and check the results with:
- https://getpmd.iptc.org/getiptcpmd.html

I haven't used anything Microsoft for about 20 years now. I am doing just fine with Linux (Debian + LXDE).
