1.9.2. PNG resizing issue

I tried to resize a PNG logo with alpha channel. It looks all great until I upload into wordpress. it looks terrible. I guess there might be a problem with the alpha channel.

I am always irritated about the many sampling options and additional "resampling". Unsure what it does.

Other issues I ran into:
- cropping doesn't offer "original" aspect ratio option
- saving as JPG doesn't offer any quality options
