Need my telephone number for making a donation? Really?

I just wanted to say thank you with a donation for this great software.

But I stopped after seeing I have to give away my telephone number. For what reason do anybody need my telephone number when I want to make a donation? I even don't even see a reason why a mail address should be necessary even. Credit card data is more than enough. As long as there is no possibility to donate without putting in my telephone number.

So unfortunately at the moment I can just say thank you.
