PFI files thumbnail & preview

Hi,
I'm new to this forum.
I'm using Photofiltre 11 to edit my images and a lot of them are PFI files.
I read XnView can preview & generate "contact sheets" of images, including PFI type.
I can't find the PFI extension in Setting nor Plugins.
Can you tell me how to add this type of file to display its thumbnail in XnView MP at least (ideally, also in Windows Explorer)

so far XnView can read uncompressed PFI only

PhotoFiltre's author has PFI format details on forum
however, I'm not sure if its updated or has compression details as post is 20y old
