Something happened to the Categories in some of my photos but I am not sure how it happened.
I have a folder of photos. All of the photos had Categories and Subcategories assigned.
I added a new Category named "Temporary" to some of the photos.
Days later when I came to remove the "Temporary" Category I noticed that all of the original Categories and Subcategories had been lost.
The photos that I did not add the "Temporary" Category to all still have their original Categories and Subcategories assigned.
Has anybody any idea how the original Categories and Subcategories could have been lost from the photos that I assigned the "Temporary" Category to? I have checked the photos in Windows Explorer and the Categories are missing there also.
Here are my Metadata settings.

Your catalog (xnview.db) was created and updated (add categories etc ..) with a unique version of XnViewMP ?
I think I read that xnviewMP last version cannot use a previous version of catalog ...

Thank you for your reply michel038. A recent update of XnView MP informed me that I needed to update my Catalogue to use some new features. I updated the Catalogue and all the new features appear to be working. I cannot reproduce the problem but if it happens again I will try a clean install with a new Catalogue.

if you use a copy of some files with categories, and you add your Temporary category, how is XMP metadatas?
Hi Pierre, thank you for helping. I have done as you suggested and it worked, XMP metadata was fine. I cannot reproduce the problem. I will keep an eye on it and let you know if it happens again.
Sorry to trouble you all.
